Diese Diskussion wird auch heute noch gef hrt und lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Funktionen der Presse und allgemein der Massenmedien, die diese f r den Einzelnen und die Gesellschaft mit ihren Subsystemen erf llen. Die vorliegende Arbeit besch ftigt sich nach einem Abschnitt zur Begriffskl rung (2.1) mit der Informationsfunktion (2.2.), den politischen (2.3), sozialen (2.4) und konomischen (2.5) Funktionen der Massenmedien und beleuchtet abschlie end zwei Begriffe, die in der oben genannten Diskussion oft fallen: den der " ffentlichen Aufgabe" und den der "Vierten Gewalt" (2.6). Die Ausf hrungen nehmen dabei Bezug auf ein politisches und konomisches System, wie wir es in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland vorfinden, also eine freiheitlich-pluralistisch verfasste, parlamentarisch repr sentative, Gewalten teilende Demokratie mit einer marktwirtschaftlichen Wirtschaftsordnung.
