Als ihr Teilgebiet befasst sich die Lexikologie "[...] mit der Erforschung und Beschreibung des Wortschatzes einer Sprache [...]" . Au erdem untersucht sie "[...] sprachliche Ausdrücke im Hinblick auf ihre interne Bedeutungsstruktur und die Zusammenhänge zwischen einzelnen Wörtern bzw. Lexikoneinträgen [...]" . Als Lexikographie bezeichnet man "Vorgang, Ergebnis und Methode der Anfertigung von Wörterbüchern" . Sie erfasst gleichsam die Resultate der Lexikologie. In der folgenden Arbeit wird die Geschichte des Wortes Uhr lexikologisch und lexikographisch untersucht. Das Wort Uhr wurde ausgewählt, weil es durch seinen häufigen Gebrauch jedermann bekannt ist. Unsere Gesellschaft funktioniert nach der Uhr. Deshalb wird das Wort auch tagtäglich ganz selbstverständlich benutzt. Vor allem im Alltag hängt alles von der Uhrzeit ab: Wann man morgens aufsteht, wann man arbeiten muss oder wann man verabredet ist. Ein Leben ohne Uhr ist hier kaum noch vorstellbar. Als Untersuchungsgegenstand für die Wortgeschichte dienen verschiedene Typen von Wörterbüchern. Dazu zählen historische Wörterbücher, etymologische Wörterbücher sowie Sprachstadienwörterbücher. Sie werden innerhalb des gleichen Typus synchron und diachron betrachtet. Dabei soll herausgefunden werden, wo Uhr seinen Ursprung hat und wie sich das Wort in den einzelnen Sprachperioden bis heute entwickelt hat. Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt auf dem Deutschen. Gleichzeitig wird der Aufbau von Wörterbuchartikeln geprüft. Eingeleitet wird die Arbeit durch grundlegende Angaben zum Wort Uhr. Das bezieht sich insbesondere auf die Phonetik und Morphologie, es werden aber auch weitere grammatische Eigenschaften einbezogen. Das darauf folgende Kapite
