Überblick über die formaltheoretischen Prämissen aus dem amerikanischen Pragmatismus und Beleuchtung der vielfältigen interdisziplinären Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Zum Schluss ein Ausblick auf das Zukunftspotential der Grounded Theory sowie kritische Reflexion. Barney Glaser und Anselm Strauss veröffentlichten 1967 das wegweisende Werk "The Discovery of Grounded Theory", welches sich als Klassiker der empirischen qualitativen Sozialforschung herausgestellt hat. Dieses Werk kann als eine Programm-, bzw. Brandschrift bezeichnet werden, die in die Aufbruchszeit der amerikanischen 1960er Jahre fällt. Neben den politischen und bürgerrechtlichen Emanzipationsbewegungen rund um den "summer of love" 1967 in San Francisco gab es auch einen intellektuellen Aufbruch. Junge Forscherinnen und Forscher richteten sich gegen den konservativen Konsens des Strukturfunktionalismus und dem Dogma der quantitativen Sozialforschung. Das "Discovery of Grounded Theory" Buch, mit einem antiautoritären Touch und subversiven Elementen, wie der Psychologe Günter Mey und der Soziologe Jörg Strübing auf dem Berliner Methodentreffen 2017 konstatieren, kann als "Kind" dieser intellektuellen Aufbruchszeit angesehen werden. Claudia Equit und Christoph Hohage bezeichnen die Publikation als ein "Manifest" und eine "Programmatik". Neben der Kritik an quantifizierenden, standardisierenden Verfahren gab es aber auch eine Kritik in Richtung qualitative Traditionen, die zu dieser Zeit stark von Feldforschung und einer rein deskriptiven Herangehensweise zur Untersuchung von sozialen P
