M rike hat hier f nf urspr nglich voneinander unabh ngige Gedichte zu einem Zyklus zusammengefasst. Der Titel Peregrina ist lateinisch und bedeutet "die Wandernde, Fremde." Damit benennt der Titel die zentrale Figur des Zyklus, um die sich das Geschehen und die Gedanken des lyrischen Ichs drehen, und die durch ihre Pers nlichkeit auf den Verlauf der Beziehung als "Wandernde" entscheidenden Einfluss nimmt. Inspiriert hat M rike dabei die biographisch gesicherte Begegnung mit Maria Meyer, die den Menschen M rike sichtlich verst rt und verwirrt hat.2 M rikes Schwester beschreibt sie als "ein von Grund aus verwahrlostes, durch Selbstt uschung und Eitelkeit verf hrtes, aber in ihrer Traurigkeit und dem kraftlosen Streben nach etwas Besserem unendlich r hrendes Gesch pf"3. Aus der Figur der Peregrina wurde im Maler Nolten die Zigeunerin Elisabeth und ihre Mutter Loskine.4 Im Peregrina - Zyklus erz hlt er jedoch nicht die Geschichte der Maria Meyer; sie ist eine "poetische Gestalt, ein Gesch pf der Phantasie"5 und die Gedichte sind "Poesie und nicht Protokoll"6. Er bewegt sich vielmehr zwischen r tselhaftem Geschehen und der zum Teil surrealen Gedankenwelt eines Liebenden, der dem Reiz des Eros v llig erlegen ist in der Epoche des Biedermeier, einer Zeit, in der u ere Ordnung und die Wiederherstellung alter Zust nde von gro er Bedeutung sind. Entstanden ist letztendlich ein lyrischer Text bestehend aus f nf verschiedenen Textabschnitten unterschiedlicher Form, verschiedenen Aufbaus und sprachlicher Besonderheiten.
