Es wird immer deutlicher, dass die Industriegesellschaft an den Rand des ökologischen Ruins treibt. "Der Krieg gegen die Natur ist nicht zu gewinnen. Wollen sie aber ihren Umgang mit der Natur neu bestimmen, um ihre physischen Lebenschance weiter wahrnehmen zu können, dann müssen sie jene Entscheidungsstrukturen zur Disposition stellen, die seit Jahrhunderten Gültigkeit haben." Einen neuen Weg könnte eine ökosoziale Politik bieten. Nach Aussage von Friedrich Otto Wolf ist der Kern- und Angelpunkt einer ökosozialen Politik die Forderung des ökosozialen Übergangs, d.h. der Transformation der herrschenden Produktionsweise in Richtung auf eine langfristige, ökologisch nachhaltige, reproduktionsfähige und die Reproduktion eines eigenständigen Komplexes nicht menschlich vermittelter ökologischer Systeme ermöglichende, zu den bestehenden Verhältnissen alternative Weise des "Arbeitens und Lebens", in der die tätigen Subjekte selbstverantwortlich immer wieder die Kontrolle über ihre gesellschaftlichen Reproduktionsprozesse gewinnen. In wie weit hat nun Marx in seinen Werken Ökologie oder die Rolle der Natur überhaupt behandelt? Mit dieser Arbeit soll untersucht werden, welche Bedeutung der Natur im Marxschen Denken zukommt und ob sich daraus Lösungen ergeben für den Übergang in ein ökologischeres und nachhaltigeres Gesellschaftssystem.
