Die meisten Juden geh�rten der Mittelschicht an, jegliche gesetzliche Diskriminierung war aufgehoben. J�dische Intellektuelle geh�rten vielfach zur kulturellen Elite. Im Jahr 1939 verfasste Martin Buber einen Aufsatz mit dem Titel "Das Ende der deutsch-j�dischen Symbiose". Das Verh�ltnis zwischen Deutschen und Juden vor 1933 sei demnach ein Zustand gewesen, den er als "produktiv", "echt" und "naturhaft" beschreibt. Die reflektierte Betrachtung der Verh�ltnisse in der Zeit zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen, f�hrte in den 60er Jahren zu einer Debatte �ber die tats�chliche Existenz einer solchen "deutsch-j�dischen" Symbiose in der Weimarer Republik, die ausgel�st worden war durch eine Kontroverse zwischen Gerschom Scholem und dem damaligen Bundestagspr�sidenten Eugen Gerstenmeier. Scholem bezeichnete die von Gerstenmeier in einer Rede vor dem J�dischen Weltkongress im Jahr 1966 erneut zitierte deutsch-j�dische Symbiose als einen "zur�ckprojizierten Wunschtraum". 1946 pr�gte Hannah Ahrendt den Begriff der "negativen Symbiose", der von Dan Diner in seinem Aufsatz "Negative Symbiose - Deutsche und Juden nach Auschwitz" aufgegriffen wurde. 1983 verfasste Diner dann einen Aufsatz "Fragmente von Unterwegs", in dem er die Probleme deutscher Juden bei der eigenen Identit�tsfindung im Kontext des deutsch-j�dischen Verh�ltnisses beschreibt. Diese Arbeit fasst zun�chst die Kernaspekte der Debatte um die deutsch-j�dische Symbiose zusammen. Anschlie end werden die oben genannten Texte von Dan Diner untersucht.
