Das postkommunistische Lager des noch amtierenden Pr�sidenten Aleksander Kwaśniewski spielt dabei keine Rolle mehr, die Wahl entscheidet sich vielmehr zwischen zwei Kandidaten aus dem Lager der ehemaligen Oppositionsbewegung Solidarnośc, die "nach 1989 in Dutzende kurzlebiger Parteien und Gruppierungen zersplitterte und mehrere Politikergarnituren verschliss". Das politische Geschehen in Polen erfreut sich bei auch bei seinem westlichen Nachbarn seit einiger Zeit einer gestiegenen Aufmerksamkeit. Die politische Rolle des polnischen Staatsoberhauptes ist hingegen noch nicht allen Interessierten ein Begriff. Diese Arbeit widmet sich daher der Untersuchung dieser Rolle, wobei die institutionellen Weichenstellungen der Dritten Republik und deren Auswirkungen im Vordergrund stehen. Dabei wird zun�chst der Verfassungsgebungsprozess in chronologischer Reihenfolge unter die Lupe genommen. Das Augenmerk gilt der Erkl�rung der den Pr�sidenten betreffenden Bestimmungen in den drei Verfassungsdokumenten. Besonders das Verhalten der jeweiligen Amtsinhaber und dessen Niederschlag in der Verfassungsgebung sind hierbei von Interesse. Im systematischen Teil r�ckt anschlie end die Rolle des Pr�sidenten im semipr�sidentiellen Regime Polens in den Blickpunkt. Zuletzt soll gekl�rt werden, wie sich pers�nliche Autorit�t und institutionelle Machtbefugnisse auf den Einfluss des Staatspr�sidenten auf die polnische Politik auswirken. Da sich der Bestand an verf�gbarer Fachliteratur zu diesem Thema noch in Grenzen h�lt, ist diese Arbeit nicht sehr ausf�hrlich geworden. Hoffentlich gelingt es ihr dennoch
