Examensarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Geowissenschaften / Geographie - Fremdenverkehrsgeographie, Note: 1,5, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (Kulturgeograohie), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Den Ansto zu dieser Arbeit gab mir 2002 ein Jamaica-Aufenthalt kurz nach dem Abitur. Zu dieser Reise entschloss ich mich, da ich seit Jahren ein begeisterter Hörer der Reggae-Musik bin, die in Jamaica ihren Ursprung hat. Anfangs waren es vor allem die entspannten Melodien, die mir gefielen. Doch nach und nach beschäftigte ich mich auch mit den Texten und Anliegen der Reggae-Musiker. Hierbei stellte ich fest, dass Reggae-Musik viel mehr als nur "normale" Musik ist. So dient sie heute z.B. in manchen Teilen Jamaicas als "Zeitung", da täglich mehrere neue Lieder zu aktuellen Problemen produziert werden und in vielen ländlichen Gebieten die Analphabeten-Quote recht hoch ist. Darüber hinaus ist Reggae-Musik die Musik der Unterdrückten und Armen und gerade in den erbärmlichen Slums der Hauptstadt Kingston die einzige Freude und Hoffnung der Ghetto-Bewohner. In den Reggae-Liedern taucht immer wieder der Begriff RASTAFARI auf. Es stellte sich heraus, dass die Mehrheit der Reggae-Musiker dieser Bewegung angehört. Mir erschien es daher sinnvoll und spannend, mich wissenschaftlich mit dem Phänomen RASTAFARI auseinanderzusetzen.
