Kriegs- und Nachkriegszeiten haben der Veraffentlichung dieser Mitteilung groBe Hindernisse bereitet und sie urn Jahre verzagert. Das nahezu fertige Manuskript wurde eines Tages, nicht ohne Lebensgefahr, von Assistenten der Frankfurter Klinik in aufopfernder Weise aus Triimmern geborgen. Dann gebot der Papiermangel unserer Tage eine maglichst gedrangte Form der Darstellung. Wegen der Unzuganglichkeit des notwendigen Schrifttums muBte auch leider mancher Autor unberiicksichtigt bleiben. Dies mage heute zur Entschuldigung dienen. Umstande, dieser Art diirften jedoch insofern weniger ins Gewicht fallen, als diese monographische Bearbeitung der Schleimhaute des Ohres und der Luftwege dadurch einhelliger zum Ausdruck kommt. Zwar stand noch in Ab- sicht, manche Liicke durch eigene Forschung zu schlieBen, doch waren die Voraussetzungen dazu fiir nicht absehbare Zeit verloren gegangen.
