Die morphologische Pathologie hat durch die Entwicklung der in ihrer Ver- feinerung noch nicht abgeschlossenen histochemischen Untersuchungsmethoden einen neuen Impuls erhalten. Schon jetzt sind unsere Kenntnisse auf vielen Ge- bieten der allgemeinen und speziellen Pathologie durch diese Methoden ver- breitert und vertieft worden. Auf dem Gebiete der Neuropathologie liegen bisher systematische histochemische Studien oder zusammenfassende Darstellungen ihrer Ergebnisse nicht vor. Es besteht aber kein Zweifel daran, daB zunachst in Einzel- arbeiten im In-und Auslande gewonnene Erkenntnisse sich fUr die Neurohisto- logie befruchtend ausgewirkt haben. Die moderne Neurohistochemie verfolgt nicht den Zweck und ist auch nicht dazu berufen, die klassische Neurohistopatho- logie zu ersetzen. Sie ist aber mit ihren methodischen Moglichkeiten in der Lage, die Erkenntnisse derselben - auch beziiglich der Dynamik der Krankheits- vorgange - zu verfeinern. In der allgemeinen und speziellen morphologischen Pathologie sind die histo- chemischen Methoden zu einem unentbehrlichen Riistzeug geworden. Zusammen- fassende Darstellungen aller wesentlichen, heute anerkannten derartigen Methoden stammen infolgedessen von pathologischen Anatomen (L. LISON, A. G. E. PEARSE, R. D. LILLIE). Es ist daher nur zu begriiBen, daB die vorliegende Mono- an einer Reihe von Er- graphie iiber die Ergebnisse histochemischer Studien krankungen des Zentralnervensystems in einem Institut fUr morphologische Pathologie erarbeitet wurde. Mein Mitarbeiter, Privatdozent Dr. P. B. DIEZEL, hat die von ihm vorgelegten Untersuchungen durch Grundlagenforschungen unterbaut und die freundlicherweise von Herrn Professor Dr. Dr. E. KLENK, Physiologisch- chemisches Institut der Universitat Koln, zur Verfiigung gestellten Reinsubstan- zen, insbesondere Lipoide, mit modernen histochemischen Methoden untersucht.
