Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Systeme - Allgemeines und Vergleiche, Note: 2,7, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (Institut für Politikwissenschaften), Veranstaltung: Anaylse und Vergleich politischer Systeme, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Zusammenbruch der Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken (UdSSR) zu Beginn der 1990er Jahre stellte die Erforschung von demokratischen Übergängen bzw. die Erforschung von Systemwechseln vor neue Herausforderungen. Stand die Forschung bis dato vor allem im Zeichen von Struktur- und Modernisierungstheorie so gewannen Ende der 1980er Jahre auch Akteurstheorien an Bedeutung. Der Zusammenbruch der UdSSR hatte zur Folge, dass von einem auf den anderen Tag 15 neue und unabhängige Staaten, welche nach über 70 Jahren Fremdherrschaft frei waren, entstanden. Was folgte, war eine Reihe von Systemtransformationen in Ost- und Mitteleuropa sowie in den asiatischen Teilrepubliken der ehemaligen UdSSR. Da dieser Prozess wie schon zuvor in Mittelamerika für viele Staaten galt, wird er von Huntington als dritte Welle der Demokratisierung beschrieben. Doch blickt man heute, über 20 Jahre nach dem Zusammenbruch auf die ehemali-gen Sowjetrepubliken so fällt auf, dass sich nur wenige von ihnen nach den Transformationsprozessen zu konsolidierten Demokratien entwickelt haben und andere ehemalige Sowjetrepubliken, die zunächst ebenfalls einen Transformationsprozess mit demokratischen Reformen begonnen hatten, letztendlich doch zu Autokratien oder "defekten" Demokratien geworden sind. Dies zeigt deutlich, dass die Transformationsprozesse in den Staaten nicht immer erfolgreiche Demokratisierungsprozesse waren und der Systemwechsel von der Autokratie der Sowjetunion hin zu einer freiheitlichen Demokratie in vielen ehe-maligen Teilrepubliken der UdSSR misslang. Interessant hierbei ist es, die Rolle der politischen Eliten genauer zu untersuchen und ihren Einfluss auf die Transformationsprozesse kritisch zu betrachte
