Ich mochte denkend den Weg zu GOETHES Naturauffassung bahnen, oder genauer, ich mochte mich mit GOETHES Gedanken iiber Vernunft und Natur vertraut machen und iiberlegen, ob ich dabei nicht auch zu Einsich- ten komme, die ich mir verbindlich aneignen dar . Dieser Absicht kann man entgegenhalten, daB GOETHES Naturauf- fassung ein Teil seiner Weltanschauung ist, daB diese Weltanschauung weder aus der Epoche, in welcher sie entstand, noch aus der Welt des Dichters, in der sie sich bildete, gelost werden darf und daB wir diese in sich geschlossene Gestalt nur in hermeneutischem Bemiihen um das Erlebnis, aus dem sie erbliihte, verstehen und als Gestalt in der Geschichte des Gei- stes uns aneignen konnen. Man kann ferner einwenden, daB GOETHES Kritik an NEWTON ja nicht berechtigt war, daB GOETHE aber auf dieser Kritik beharrte und beharren muBte, wenn er seine Auffassung retten wollte, und daB unser V orhaben also von vornherein zum Scheitern ver- urteilt sei. Nun bin ich aber durch Denken - ich meine in der Bemiihung um die Klarung der einfachen Schritte des selbstgewissen Denkens - zu der Meinung gekommen, daB ich mich denkend nicht verantwortlich aus der Wahrnehmung losen kann, wie DESCARTES es zu konnen meinte, und daB ich nicht recht weiB, was Wahrnehmen ist und was in der Wahrnehmung eigentlich in Erscheinung tritt. Und ich habe den Eindruck, daB sich bei GOETHE eine Anleitung zu unbefangenerem Wahrnehmen lnden laBt.
