Pandora steht symbolisch für die Verlockungen, Folgen und Nebenfolgen im Prozess der Zivilisation. Aphrodite verkörpert als Göttin der Liebe den Verdrängungs-Wettbewerb unter Frauen und die Entschiedenheit, im Zweifelsfall alles einzusetzen. Derweil steht die schöne Helena für das Schicksal, im Spiel der Mächte zum willenlosen Opfer und zur schönen Beute gemacht zu werden, um als Trumpf, Trophäe, vielleicht sogar im Triumph gewaltsam genommen zu werden. Es gibt eine Fotografie, die minutiös von Friedrich Nietzsche gegen den Einspruch der Beteiligten arrangiert worden ist. - Lou Andreas-Salomé hat Friedrich Nietzsche und Paul Rée vor ihren Karren gespannt. So könnte eine Interpretation lauten, zumal die Begehrte kurz zuvor die Heiratsanträge beider Männer abgelehnt hatte. - Es mag sein, dass Nietzsche sich von dieser enttäuschenden Liebe inspirieren lie . Aber neben der biographischen Interpretation ist eine andere noch tiefgründiger, es geht um das Motiv aller Motive. Das berühmte Foto spottet jeder landläufigen Interpretation des gemeinen Spruchs: Wenn Du zum Weibe gehst, vergiss die Peitsche nicht. Gerade dieser Satz hat Nietzsche in Verruf gebracht. Betrachtet man aber das Foto genauer, so zeigt sich, wer hier die Peitsche führt: Es ist das Weib.
