Die folgenden Ausführungen beschäftigen sich damit, wie Rechte und Pflichten der Bürger und des Staates und auch das Verhältnis von Staat und Religion im saudischen Grundgesetz von 1992 verankert sind, welches in vielerlei Hinsicht eine Neuerung für den Staat darstellt, aber andererseits überwiegend an traditionellen Grundsätzen festhält. Dabei wird zunächst auf den geschichtlichen Hintergrund sowohl des Landes als auch der Religion eingegangen werden, um die Stellung Saudi-Arabiens in der islamischen Welt und die Grundlagen, auf denen der Staat und seine Regierung aufgebaut sind, darzulegen. Im Folgenden wird dann der Aufbau des saudischen Grundgesetzes kurz dargestellt und anschlie end immer mit Blick auf religionspolitische Zusammenhänge analysiert. Dies erfolgt anhand einer Betrachtung der Verankerung sowohl des organisatorischen Staatsaufbaus, der Rechte und Pflichten des Individuums, sowie der Stellung der religiösen Gelehrten im Grundgesetz. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, die Rolle des Islam im Grundgesetz und bei der politischen Willensbildung verständlich zu machen und unter verschiedenen Blickwinkeln kritisch zu betrachten.
