Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2000 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 1,3, Freie Universität Berlin (Otto-Suhr-Institut für Politikwissenschaft), Veranstaltung: Projektkurs: Machttheorien, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Erst die späten Werke Michel Foucaults, die einen Wechsel der Perspektive auf das Subjekt vollziehen, lassen das Gesamtwerk des Theoretikers als solches erkennen und bieten den Schlüssel zum Verständnis dessen, was Foucaults theoretisches sowie politisches Anliegen war. Der viel zitierten These, es gebe einen radikalen Bruch in Foucaults Werk, möchte die Arbeit Foucaults eigenes Verständnis einer Kontinuität entgegensetzen. Statt zu postulieren, Foucault spräche in seinem Spätwerk "zum ersten Mal seit gut zehn Jahren wieder von einer freien Subjektivität", wird dargelegt, das Foucault das Phänomen der Subjektivierung über die Zeit aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln analysiert hat, nämlich zunächst von au en und später von innen. Die Hinwendung zum Subjekt in den späten Werken steht dabei in einem engen Zusammenhang mit einer "Ästhetik der Existenz", die Foucault in den antiken Überlieferungen findet und hieraus eine Ethik formuliert. Das ethische Interesse in Foucaults spätem Werk war jedoch nicht mit einer Abkehr von einem politischen Interesse verbunden, einem Rückzug in eine privatistische Moral. Im Gegenteil rückte Foucault die Praxis der Ethik oder "die Politik als eine Ethik" in den Mittelpunkt seiner letzten Schriften, weil er erkannte, dass unsere politische Kultur einen bestimmten Modus der politischen Beziehung auf das Selbst beinhaltet. Denn nur die "Selbstpolitik" könne uns von einer "Seele" und einer "Selbstbeziehung" befreien, die von sehr spezifischen Kräften des Wissens, der Macht und der Subjektivierung definiert worden seien.
