Seit der ersten, grundlegenden, monographischen Bearbei- tung der "zervikalen Syndrome in der Hals-, Nasen- und Ohren-Heilkunde" durch H.Decher (1969a) sind nunmehr 14 Jahre vergangen. Zahlreiche, zwischenzeitlich erschienene Publikationen konnten unsere Kenntnisse zu diesem Tbe- menkreis erweitem. Neue Impulse im Verstandnis der Zervi- kalsyndrome, die friiher nicht beriicksichtigt waren, wurden von der Manualmedizin beigetragen, so daB in diesem Buch eine erste Synopsis der heutigen Vorstellungen yom Zervikal- syndrom unter Beriicksichtigung der Manualmedizin ver- sucht werden solI. Die Manualmedizin findet in den letzten Jahren ein zuneh- mendes Interesse in der allgemeinen Medizin. Die teilweise verbluffenden Erfolge der Manualmediziner zwingen die "Schulmedizin" zu einer Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Ma- terie, denn nur so kann ein bleibender Gewinn fUr die Medi- zin im Ganzen erwartet werden. Manualmedizinischen Erfolgen fehlten friiher objektivier- bare Kriterien; nun bietet die objektivierbare Gleichgewichts- stOrung bei zervikaler Funktionsstorung die Moglichkeit, ma- nualmedizinische Erfolge zu bestatigen oder zu widerlegen. Sie eroffnet zudem neue Einblicke in neurophysiologische und neuropathologische Zusammenhange, die bisher nur ver- mutet wurden. Da den Manualtherapeuten im allgemeinen das Rustzeug zur Beurteilung einer Gleichgewichtsstorung fehlt, anderer- seits der Otoneurologe keine naheren und ausreichenden Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen im Umgang mit der Manualme- dizin besitzt, solI hier der Versuch untemommen werden, die bisherigen Standpunkte abzuwagen, neu erarbeitete Fakten aufzuzeigen und den Weg fUr eine Synopsis vorzubereiten. Ich hoffe, daB diese Arbeit eine Hilfe fUr die Differentialdia- gnose der Zervikalsyndrome aufzeichnet und auch einen An- VIII Vorwort halt fUr die Indikation oder Kontraindikation zu manualme- dizinischen "Ein-Griffen bietenkann.
