Silvia Blum-Barkmin charakterisiert Diskontinuität im Bereich der Linearen Algebra näher und untersucht empirisch den Umgang (angehender) Lehrkräfte mit Diskontinuität. Dazu nimmt sie eine vergleichende Analyse von Lehr-Lern-Materialien aus Schule und Hochschule zu den Begriffen Vektor und Skalarprodukt vor und arbeitet darin heraus, was Diskontinuität konkret bedeutet. Um den Umgang mit Diskontinuität zu erfassen, entwickelte sie ein stark inhaltsbezogenes interviewbasiertes Verfahren und wendete es in einer Studie mit Lehramtsstudierenden, Referendar*innen und Lehrkräften an. Sie entwickelt einen Vorschlag für eine Zielvorstellung für die universitäre Lehramtsausbildung für den Umgang von Lehrkräften mit Diskontinuität im Bereich der Linearen Algebra. Dieser greift eine bestehende normative Zielvorstellung für die fachliche Lehramtsausbildung, den Höheren Standpunkt, auf und verwendet den Kompetenzbegriff.
