Sometimes, your own thoughts can consume you. When you refuse to give those thoughts consideration, they can take on a life on their own. Shawn refuses to believe the thoughts in his own head, but his brain demands to be heard. It creates a hallucinatory figment of Shawn that only he can see and hear. This skewed version nurtures fears of self-loathing and depression, attempting to drive Shawn mad, and ultimately, get him to end his life. Will his brain snap, or is it possible to defeat your own subconscious? Displacement: The Graphic Novel, collects all 3 issues in the Displacement mini-series. The entire series has been reformatted with new panel borders. It only includes the original opening paragraphs of each issue, as well as the original covers for all 3 issues.

Displacement is Shawn Padraic Murphy's first comic book. Displacement initially started as a comedic web comic based on his freshman life at college called "Wesleyan World", but the idea for a serious story suddenly entered, breaking the tone and format of the strip and was quickly abandoned. It was later made into a comic book script that he merged with a fiction story he had created a few years prior. He then collaborated with artist Michelle Balze (a fellow grad student at Southampton College) in 2006. After finally publishing it in single issue format in 2009, it was finally compiled into this graphic novel as it final form in 2013. Displacement wouldn't be his last comic; he has since created a comic book about superheros that addresses the sexism in our culture (Strength), a fantasy comic for all ages (Mechanaflux), a slice-of-life comic about the end of the world (The End), and is currently working on a superhero romance comic (Crystal Clear). In addition, Shawn has written and directed various short films (Immortal Love, Alive!) and helped work on a few independent features (Jimmy Traynor's The Ticket, Live & Die). Shawn currently lives in Columbia, Maryland. This is usually where the writer mentions how many cats they live with. Unfortunately, Shawn has no cats.
