Die vorliegende Leseausgabe von Heinrichs von dem Türlin Roman Diu Crône versteht sich als Ergänzung zur kritischen ATB-Ausgabe von Knapp/ Niesner und Ebenbauer/ Kragl. Während diese durch ihre gro e Handschriftennähe eine wichtige Bereicherung für die Forschung ist, möchte die Lesefassung durch ihre behutsame sprachliche Normalisierung und die beigegebenen Übersetzungshilfen, Kapitelüberschriften und kurzen Inhaltsangaben eine erste Begegnung mit dem reichen, aber nicht leicht verständlichen Text erleichtern. Die schwierige Überlieferungssituation schlägt sich im notwendigen Wechsel der Leithandschrift nieder: Die älteren Wiener bzw. Linzer Fragmente V und D dienen soweit möglich als Leithandschrift, die jüngere Heidelberger Handschrift P in den Partien, die nicht anders überliefert sind.
Die Leseausgabe steht in der Tradition der bewährten und bis heute genutzten Ausgabe, die Scholl 1852 erstellt hatte, ist aber völlig neu aus den Handschriften erarbeitet und bietet zum ersten Mal wieder eine für Lehre und (Selbst-)Studium geeignete Fassung des Romans.
