DNA in Health, Identity and Ancestry examines the human genome and advances in molecular techniques in relation to their value in health, genetic ancestry, and forensic DNA. This book systematically presents these three areas, providing new insights into recent developments in these fields, including gene editing, ancestral fraction determination, and DNA profiling. It covers the latest advances in molecular biology to understand the pertinent issues in these areas. DNA in Health, Identity and Ancestry provides an introduction to human genomes, and then delves into health, forensics and ancestry across 36 chapters. Each section is concluded with practical case studies to demonstrate the application of the principles discussed in each respective section. This book is a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and postgraduate students in biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics. It not only provides them with fundamental knowledge on genetics, diseases, population genetics and forensic DNA, but also presents advances, technical operational standards, analytical tools and recent developments in these respective areas.

Abban, Edward Kofi: -

Dr Edward Kofi Abban started his forensic career in 2010 as the Head of the Police DNA laboratory in Ghana. He has over 13 years of experience as a DNA analyst with specialities spanning DNA profiling and DNA investigations form the crime scene to expert representations in courts, DNA-based Identification of missing persons and disaster victims. He is also lecturer in biology education at the at the University of Ghana. He earned his PhD in DNA profiling from the University Sains Malaysia and has contributed significantly to scholarship in areas such as forensic DNA database generation for relevant forensic markers and population genetics of Ghanaian and West African populations. His area of interest include population genetics, wildlife genetics and DNA profiling methodologies.

Edinur, Hisham Atan: -

Edinur H. Atan is a lecturer of Forensic Science Programme at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia and Research Fellow of Australian Research Centre for Human Evolution at Griffith University. He did his MSc in Forensic Science at Universiti Sains Malaysia and PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. In 2013, he settled into his current teaching and research role at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has strong research skills in forensics, molecular biology, genetics and bio-medicine, an impressive list of articles and books published by reputable publishers (e.g. Springer, Lancet, Nature, MDPI, PLOS, Frontiers etc.) and contacts in US, UK, Australia, New Zealand plus Malaysia and elsewhere in Europe, Africa and Middle East.
