Medical science often does not move from myth to fact, but from one myth to a more sophisticated myth. Medical schools do not make doctors immune to fads, gimmicks, or erase the mindsets one was raised with. Training can't eliminate a desire to follow the crowd rather than facts. What is even worse than that is when doctors act out of malice, with the intent to harm. Medical gaslighting and even falsified tests compound the difficulties of a serious condition, and the intent to prevent healing is encountered.
A disease is never just a physical matter. Social, emotional, spiritual effects can't be separated from the physical, with the social often being worse than the disease. The damage goes far beyond people failing to understand what so.eone is experiencing. As society moves more toward narcissistic tendencies, it seems that the most destructive disease comes from the treatment by others, not from one's genes. Even supposed "help" can be self-serving and discriminatory, even passive-aggressive. Hypocrisy and double standards of society make the disease what it is.
It doesn't matter how things are "supposed" to be. When you are facing life threatening problems it is only facts which matter. Ideals may be nice, but reality is what counts, and if one falls into the trap of thinking that the ideal is the way things are, then one is living in a dangerous lie. It doesn't matter if it is the empty words of a Hippocratic Oath, the myth of a mother's "unconditional" love, or that going to a church means that someone has anything to do with following that religion. To have what is real you must let go of what isn't, no matter how nice that fantasy may seem. A problem can't be solved unless it is acknowledged.
This work is for not only those with serious illness, but for all those marginalized, scapegoated and hated for being different, and those who have had to experience the victim blaming that goes on at all parts of society.
It is a predatory society which creates isolation of those different, and some of us have had to face murder for being different, survival of the fittest being one excuse. But physical attacks weren't enough. Religion is used as a weapon to destroy the different inside and out. We were told that we were born with a disease because we are evil and being punished by God. Forgiveness is handed to murderers and child molesters, but never to a victim who speaks up. Those who object to abuse are told that THEY have the "greater sin". Illness and its challenges are declared proof they we deserve it. Even the medical world incertain religious hospitals get in on that.
Corruption exists at all levels of society. A predatory society is always ready to pounce on those who show weakness, even in the medical world. Those who speak up about abuse are retaliated against. Victims are declared the problem, and deserving of all that is done to them. There is strength which comes from facing opposition, from the struggle to overcome challenges. The greatest strength of all comes from holding on to who you are, when all those around you are trying to take it away. It is a lonely world for those different, to face all the hatred and hell society can inflict, without breaking.
A disease does not define who someone is. A disease is only a circumstance, even with all the consequences of it.
When can healing begin, when healing is not even allowed?
