This training course is structured such that you can either go through the entire course from the beginning to end or you can pick and choose the portions of the course that apply to your situation. First, you are given detailed explanations of dog sociology and canine pack mentality, so you will know the "Why" behind your dog's inappropriate behaviors. Then you are presented with a well-rounded training program of incremental training exercises and problem-solving's, so you will know the "How," to change the undesirable behaviors in your dog. In this sixth volume of the Dog-On Good Dog's Beginning Obedience and Basic Manners course you will learn the five exercises that constitute the third Lesson. The first exercise is the "Social Heel" which will add distractions and social interactions to "Heel" exercise. You will teach your dog how to respond correctly to six different kinds of social situations. You will introduce your dog to friendly people, practice passing uninterested pedestrians, take charge when approaching someone with whom you feel uncomfortable, deal with a charging dog, ignore other passing dogs and introduce your dog to other dogs allowing them to play a controlled manner. The second exercise are three extensions of the "Sit Stay" exercise. First, you will expand the amount of time that your dog must remain in the "Sit Stay" position, second you will teach your dog to remain in the "Sit Stay" position when you are moving and third, you will teach your dog to remain in the "Sit Stay" when your body language is inviting him to "Come." The third exercise is the "Foundation for the Lay Down" exercise in which you will teach your dog three things. First, the verbal command and hand signal for the "Lay Down," second, in what physical position he should place himself and third, that after obeying he will receive both physically and verbally praise. The fourth exercise is the "Go-Play/Come/This Way." The object of this exercise is to get your dog to "Go-Play" when you are moving, to respond to the "Come" command when you summon him and to follow you, staying within a thirty-foot radius, when given the command "This Way." The fifth exercise is "The Can Monster." In this exercise you will give your dog the motivation to keep the borders shown him in the second Lesson by creating an imaginary danger on the outside of the borders that is present only when you have not given your dog permission to cross the borders.
