ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

A love story set in nineteenth-century Spain.

Pepe Rey, a man with liberal ideas, travels to Orbajosa, a small episcopal Castilian town, where he intends to marry his cousin Rosario, a marriage arranged by his father, Juan, and his sister, Rosario's mother, Perfecta, widow of Polentinos. The couple immediately like each other upon meeting and declare eternal love. However, the interference of a cathedral canon, Don Inocencio, derails the good intentions of the father and aunt, and opposes the young couple's budding romance. The unfortunate turn of events culminates in a confrontation between the aunt and her nephew, when she refuses to allow her daughter to marry a nonbeliever.
