Vegetable gardening is an enterprise fraught with adventure and peril. Well, okay, that's only true when you pull up a weed and a cloud of bumblebees boils up from a nest underground. Otherwise, gardening is a pretty good way to spend your time, and you also get delicious vegetables. Don't Throw In the Trowel! guides the Midwest gardener, month by month, through the many gardening tasks that need to be done. This book helps you be more effective, plots out your month-by-month to-do list, and keeps you up to speed. Melinda R. Cordell has worked in horticulture half her life, including a stint as city horticulturist in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The Vegetable Gardening book is the first of a series which will include Roses, Annuals and Perennials, Soilbuilding, Houseplants, and Trees and Shrubs, and any others (maybe one about gardening using native species?). I am looking forward to it! I have a new book out -- Angel in the Whirlwind, a short story collection. Check it out. My book, Courageous Women of the Civil War, has been published by Chicago Review Press. I earned my Master's in Writing for Children from Hamline University. My fiction and articles have appeared in Cricket, Highlights, The Horn Book, Organic Gardening, Birds and Blooms, and Grit. I worked as a city horticulturist, as well as working in landscaping, greenhouses, rose gardens, and just about every aspect of horticulture (except for lawns, I am no fan of lawns).
