DREADRICK: CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL
The city is afraid of Cain.
Dreadrick wants to know who created him.
Kingston is tearing itself apart.
Politicians lock themselves behind armed guards. Neighbours accuse neighbours. Confessions spread faster than truth, and every new revelation pushes Jamaica closer to the edge.
The Laughing Saint has returned.
Where Cain walks, secrets follow.
Where secrets emerge, blood soon follows.
But while the nation obsesses over the monster in white, another figure moves through the shadows of the island he once ruled.
Dreadrick Staint Prince has seen empires rise and fall. He has watched kingdoms built on fear collapse beneath their own lies. And as he follows the trail of mirrors, bells, and bodies spreading across Kingston, he uncovers a truth far more terrifying than Cain himself.
Hidden beneath the city lies the Ministry of Civic Stability.
A secret organisation that has spent decades manipulating fear, controlling narratives, and treating society as an experiment.
They did not create Jamaica's sickness.
They simply learned how to profit from it.
Now their greatest weapon has escaped their control.
As Carnival approaches, Dreadrick finds himself caught between a nation demanding truth and a system willing to do anything to survive. The deeper he digs, the clearer one question becomes:
If Cain is the monster, who fed him?
A dark Caribbean fantasy thriller blending mythology, conspiracy, political intrigue, horror, and social commentary, Dreadrick: Caribbean Carnival is the explosive second part of the Carnival Saga.
Because some monsters are born.
Others are built.
And the most dangerous ones are the people who build them.
Sutherland, Raymond: -
Raymond Sutherland is a British Caribbean author and educator from Salford, England, and the creator of the interconnected VevéVerse universe. His work blends Caribbean spirituality, Celtic mythology, urban fantasy, crime fiction, historical fantasy, and social commentary into mythic stories centred on identity, justice, inheritance, and survival.
Inspired by family, heritage, and the stories of people often forgotten by history, Sutherland's writing explores the emotional and spiritual weight carried across generations. His characters range from spirit marked children and haunted revolutionaries to fighters, kings, vigilantes, and wandering souls navigating worlds shaped by power, grief, mercy, and consequence.
Alongside darker adult works such as the Shadow and Dreadrick stories, he also writes middle grade and young adult novels inspired by his daughters, including Rayah of Dantor and Rivvon. Many of the emotional foundations of the VevéVerse are drawn from his own family, with the character of Obasi inspired by his late father and Mama Elizabeth inspired by his mother.
Blending mythic fantasy with grounded emotional realism, Raymond Sutherland continues to expand the VevéVerse across multiple timelines, genres, and age groups, building a literary universe where spirit, history, culture, and legacy collide.
