A minadora de folhas, Liriomyza trifolii, � uma das pragas importantes, que causou s�rios danos ao tomate, na ordem de 30-40%. Pequenas larvas amarelas eclodem e se alimentam dentro do tecido foliar, deixando t�neis longos, finos, sinuosos e brancos (minas) atrav�s da folha. A ferida causada pela f�mea da L. trifolii na superf�cie superior das folhas para a oviposi��o cria habitats para a infec��o por pat�genos, como bact�rias e fungos. Ap�s a eclos�o, as larvas minam os tecidos foliares e alimentam-se do mesofilo das folhas, criando minas sinuosas e manchas na superf�cie superior. A taxa de fotoss�ntese das folhas minadas diminui. Em infesta��es graves, as plantas podem ficar completamente desfolhadas devido aos danos combinados das larvas da minadora de folhas e dos pat�genos vegetais. O stress das plantas, a perda de humidade ou as queimaduras solares nos frutos ocorreram devido ao sombreamento das folhas. Este tipo de dano causado pela minadora de folhas resultou na diminui��o do rendimento dos frutos. Considerando todos os fatos, as presentes investiga��es foram realizadas para avaliar m�todos alternativos mais seguros e compat�veis de controlo de pragas com uma abordagem integrada, utilizando produtos bot�nicos como NSE e �leo de karanj, em compara��o com alguns inseticidas mais recentes.
