Die hiermit gemeinten gesellschaftlichen Tendenzen zeigen sich unter anderem in den Veränderungen der Erwerbsbiographien - auch durch vielfältige und atypische Beschäftigungsformen -, in Form diskontinuierliche Erwerbsverläufe sowie der Subjektivierung und Entgrenzung von Arbeit. Thematischer Grundgedanke dieser Hausarbeit ist die Flexibilisierung der Beschäftigungsverhältnisse, insbesondere hinsichtlich der Diskontinuität der Erwerbsbiographien. Mithilfe der Überlegungen des amerikanischen Soziologen Richard Sennett und des schweizer Soziologen Marin Kohli soll eine schwerpunktsetzende Einführung in das Thema gewährleistet werden. Dazu werden bezüglich zu Richard Sennett, Aspekte aus seinem Buch "Der flexible Mensch" vorgestellt; innerhalb des Kapitels zu Martin Kohli wird sich hauptsächlich auf seine Gedanken zur De-Institutionalisierung des Lebenslaufs bezogen. Der Vorstellung dieser These geht eine vorangestellte Einführung zur Institutionalisierung des Lebenslaufs voraus, um eine ganzheitliche Verständlichkeit seiner Überlegungen zu ermöglichen. Diese Darstellung wichtiger Argumente innerhalb des Theoriehintergrunds dient der Untermauerung der fortführenden Argumentation in Kapitel drei zur Frage: "Wieso ist die Kompetenz zur Selbstgestaltung in zeitgenössischen Arbeitsformationen unabdingbar?" Zur Aufklärung der Fragestellung werden die theoretischen Annahmen der beiden Soziologen in Bezug zu Diskontinuität der Erwerbsbiographien gestellt. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es daher mithilfe der theoretischen Einführung, die Konsequenzen von Individualisierung und diskontinuierlichen Erwerbsbiographien darzustellen und anhand dessen, Selbstgestaltung als notwend
