Als Beispiel für eine Sozialeinrichtung in Oberösterreich wird ein Expertensystem (ESAT) mit der Expertensystem-Shell 'd3web' entwickelt. Dieses Expertensystem dient dazu Assistierende Technologien behinderten Menschen aufgrund deren Fähigkeiten zuzuordnen. Aufbauend auf den theoretischen Grundlagen einer Vorarbeit von Frydyada de Piotrowski, wird die systematische Auswahl einer geeigneten Expertensystem-Shell und der Entwicklungsprozess eines Prototyps beschrieben. Es wird auf den Aufbau einer Wissensbasis mit den entsprechenden Regeln ebenso wie auf Heuristiken zur Zuordnung der Hilfsmittel eingegangen. Die Funktionalität der Software wird durch erstellte Testfälle mittels Continuous Integration (CI) geprüft. Ebenso werden die Heuristiken und die Praxistauglichkeit anhand retrospektiver Tests nachgewiesen. Der Autor Siegfried Kreutzer führt in die theoretischen Grundlagen von Behinderungen, Assistierenden Technologien, Künstliche Intelligenz und Expertensysteme ein. Das Buch beschreibt ein Projekt aus der Praxis, mit vielen Tipps und richtet sich an alle Personen mit Interesse im Kontext behinderter Menschen, Assistierende Technologien und Expertensysteme.

Siegfried Kreutzer, Jahrgang 1971, studierte 'Engineering für Computer-basiertes Lernen' an der FH Oberösterreich, Campus Hagenberg und 'Gesundheitsinformatik' an der UMIT in Hall/Tirol. Zuvor arbeitete er nach seiner Berufsausbildung zum Elektromechaniker für Schwachstrom über 15 Jahre in den Bereichen Systemengineering, Netzwerke und Web-Entwicklung und war 10 Jahre lang als IT-Trainer tätig. Zurzeit arbeitet er freiberuflich im Virtual Office des FAB. Er forscht und entwickelt dort in den Bereichen 'kognitive Förderung von Jugendlichen mit Beeinträchtigungen' und 'assistierenden Technologien'. Die veranlasste ihn dazu, sich intensiv der Thematik des vorliegenden Buches zu widmen.
