Ein zufälliges Treffen zwischen einer alleinstehenden Frau, einem Witwer und einer Halbwaise in der Stadt Zürich bringt drei Menschen zusammen, die mit einer Vergangenheit von Verlust und Verrat kämpfen. Die sechsjährige Karla, deren Mutter bei einem Autounfall ums Leben kam, kann den Verlust nur schwer verkraften. Anna, ihre Tante und Betreuerin, ringt mit dem Verrat ihres früheren Ehemanns und der Maler, Jonas, trauert seiner verstorbenen Frau nach.Anna und Jonas versuchen der talentierten aber leidenden Karla zu helfen. Dabei entwickeln sie mehr als rein freundschaftliche Gefühle füreinander. Die wachsende Liebe droht jedoch im Keim zu ersticken, als Anna ein finsteres Geheimnis in Jonas' Vergangenheit entdeckt. Während die zwei Erwachsenen mit ihrer Beziehung in eine Sackgasse geraten sind, nimmt die junge Karla die Sache in die eigenen Hände. Zusammen mit einer Freundin entwickelt sie einen Plan, mit dem sie die zwei unkooperativen Erwachsenen wieder zusammenbringen will. Der Plan verursacht jedoch ein heilloses Durcheinander und als er zu scheitern beginnt, ist Karla gezwungen, wichtige Lehren daraus zu ziehen. EINE UNGEWÖHNLICHE FAMILIE ist eine Geschichte über Verlust, Lügen und Verrat, aber auch über die Kraft der Liebe und der Verzeihung. Sie spielt sich in der Schweiz, in der Stadt New York und in Guadalajara, Mexiko ab.
In der Schweiz geboren und aufgewachsen hatte ich schon früh das Verlangen, die Welt außerhalb meines schönen aber kleinen Lands zu erforschen. Als junge Frau reiste ich durch Europa, begab mich mittels eines Austauschprogramms in die USA und blieb dort stecken. Meine Reisen führten mich nach China und Japan sowie nach Südamerika und Kanada. Ich studierte Literatur und Linguistik in Zürich und Kalifornien. Heute wohne und arbeite ich in Südkalifornien und verbringe meine Zeit teils in den USA und teils in meinem Ursprungsland. Die Spannung und Aufregung, die dieses "Doppelleben" mit sich bringt, schlägt sich auch in meinem literarischen Schaffen nieder. Die meisten meiner Romane spielen sich in mehreren Ländern ab. Meine Lieblingsbeschäftigung außer dem Schreiben sind Lesen, Reisen, Spaziergänge in der Natur und das Auskundschaften interessanter Städte. Ich liebe Kunst, Rotwein und dunkle Schokolade.
