Die Wahl der Überschrift ist kritisch zu betrachten: Es lässt sich vermuten, dass die Motivation sicherlich nicht die alleinige "Triebfeder" einer guten unternehmerischen Leistung ist. Zu hinterfragen ist auch, ob Motivation überhaupt immer positiv wirkt. Dennoch verdeutlich der Titel den grundsätzlichen Zusammenhang zwischen Motivation, Arbeitsleistung und Erfolg eines Unternehmens. Menschliche Arbeit stellt einen Wettbewerbsfaktor dar, den Unternehmen zu steigern versuchen. Das "Wie?" ist eine zentrale Frage der Unternehmensführung. Folglich werden verschiedenste Motivationsinstrumente eingesetzt, um die Arbeitsleistung der Beschäftigten zu steigern. Doch welche Rolle spielt dabei die Gestaltung von organisatorischen Strukturen? Der Einfluss der Organisationsgestaltung auf die Mitarbeitermotivation wurde schon zu Beginn des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts diskutiert. Seitdem haben sich Menschenbild und Arbeitsbedingungen gewandelt, das Thema hat jedoch nicht an Aktualität und Brisanz verloren. - Ein guter Grund, sich auch, oder ganz besonders heute noch im Rahmen einer Hausarbeit eingehender mit der Problematik auseinanderzusetzen. Ziel der Arbeit ist es, zu zeigen, dass die Organisationsstruktur als Motivationsinstrument Chance und Risiko zugleich birgt und dass die strukturelle Gestaltung eines Unternehmens bewusst gewählt und umgesetzt werden muss. Zu diesem Zweck wird, nachdem einige begriffliche Grundlagen geklärt werden, zunächst der theoretische Zusammenhang von Motivation und Struktur gezeigt.
