Jeder Bauingenieur sollte geologische Kenntnisse wah- rend seiner Ausbildung vermittelt bekommen oder sich spater aneignen. Die Ansichten daruber, aus welchen Bereichen der Geologie diese stammen mussen, sind je- doch unterschiedlich. Besonders in der Vergangenheit war es vielfach so, daB geologische Lehrveranstaltun- gen fur Studierende des Bauingenieurwesens uberwiegend rein geologische Grundlagen enthalten haben. Meines Erachtens kommt es aber nicht darauf an, kommenden Bauingenieuren ein breit angelegtes geologisches Ba- siswissen mitzugeben, sondern sie anhand von ausge- wahlten Beispielen darauf hinzuweisen, inwieweit geo- logische Prozesse bei Bauvorhaben berucksichtigt wer- den sollten und welche Fragen nur von Geologen gelost werden konnen. Insofern sind die bisher auf dem Markt befindli- chen Einfuhrungen in die Geologie nur bedingt fur die Ausbildung von Bauingenieuren geeignet. Fur die- sen besonderen Zweck wurde deshalb der vorliegende, bewuBt einfach gehaltene Einfuhrungstext geschrie- ben. Er ist aus einer geologischen Grundvorlesung hervorgegangen, die ich fur Studierende des Bauinge- nieurwesens seit mehr als 10 Jahren an der Universi- tat Hannover (TU) halte. Einige Punkte habe ich zu- satzlich aus Unterlagen fur Lehrveranstaltungen "Geo- logie fur Bauingenieure" ubernommen, die mir freund- licherweise von Fachkollegen aus Aachen, Braun- schweig, Berlin (TU), Karlsruhe und Stuttgart zur Verfugung gestellt wurden. 1m vorliegenden Text sind die Themenbereiche "An- sprache von Gesteinen" und "Interpretation von geo- logischen Karten" sehr knapp gefaBt, weil sie nur in VI Form von Ubungen an Gesteins- und Kartenmaterial ver- mittelt werden konnen. Einige weiterflihrende Schriften zur Geologie und Ingenieurgeologie sind im Literatur- verzeichnis am SchluB des Textes zusammengestellt.
