Umfang- reiche Forschung und Entwicklungsarbeit fiihrten bald zu einer Ver- vollkommnung dieser neuen Bauelemente, deren in den Vereinigten Staaten schnell ansteigende Produktionsziffern bereits die der Elek- tronenrohren zu uberschreiten beginnen. Die gleiche Ent-wicklung ist in den niichsten Jahren auch in anderen Liindern zu erwarten. Fur neue elektronische Anlagen werden jetzt fast ausschlieBlich Transistoren als aktive Elemente verwendet. Da ohne grundliche Kenntnisse der Transistoreneigenschaftcn und -schaltungen heute kein EJektroingenieur mehr auszukommen vermag, ist eine gute Ausbildung auf diesem Gebiet fUr Entwicklungsarbeiten in der Nachrichtenubermittlung und Datenverarbeitung unerliiBlich. Das Buch wendet. sich in erster Linie an Studenten und Elektro- ingenieure und hat das Ziel, ihnen die fUr das Verstiindnis der Arbeits- weise und der Eigenschaften des Transistors sowie die fUr Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten erforderlichen wissenschaftlichen Grundlagen auf dem Gebiet der Transistorauslegung zu vermittcln. Transistor- schaltungen sind hier nicht aufgenommen worden, sie werden in anderen Buchern des Springer-Verlages behandelt. Das vorliegende Buch ist eine Ubersetzung del' ersten drei Teile des amerikanischen \Verkes des Verfassers, das unter dem Titel "Tran- sistors: Principles, Design and Applications" 1960 in den USA, Kanada und GroBbritannien sowie in einer Ubersetzung in Japan erschienen ist.
