Dabei handelt es sich um die Geschichte eines Chamäleons, dessen Tagesablauf darin besteht, herumzusitzen und sich von Fliegen zu ernähren. Wie jedes andere Chamäleon auch, passt es dabei seine Körperfarbe stehts an die Umgebung an. Als es eines Tages auf einen Zoo trifft und all die interessanten und einzigartigen Lebewesen dort sieht, wünscht sich das Chamäleon, ebenfalls solche Besonderheiten zu haben. Es stellt sich selbst mit den Eigenschaften der Tiere vor und bekommt dadurch die verschiedensten neuen Körperteile und Farben. Als das Chamäleon schlie lich hungrig wird, gelingt es ihm in dem Durcheinander jedoch nicht, eine Fliege zu fangen. Letztendlich wünscht es sich, wieder ein Chamäleon zu sein. Dieses Buch wurde von Eric Carle geschrieben sowie illustriert. Er hat in der Geschichte ausschlie lich Tiere als Charaktere verwendet. Die Farben im Bilderbuch sind sehr hell und farbenfroh. Ausgeschnittene Ecken bilden eine Collage, welche die Reihenfolge und Farben der verschiedenen Tiere, die das Chamäleon sein will, darstellt. Das gibt dem Buch Regelmä igkeit und es hilft Kindern, sich an die Tiere zu erinnern. Die Illustrationen werden grö tenteils auf einem wei en Hintergrund präsentiert. Durch die scharfen Ecken und Kanten sind sie nicht realistisch. Jedoch beziehen sich diese klaren Strukturen und Konturen verständlich auf den Text, ergänzen diesen und unterstützen daher das Textverständnis, ohne zu sehr von der Handlung abzulenken.
