Seine Entdeckungen hatten in unserem Jahrhundert den grö ten Einflu auf die weitere Entwicklung der Physik als Fachdisziplin. Das neue Bild der Welt, das wir Einstein verdanken, ist jedoch noch bedeutungsvoller. Einstein war aber nicht nur der bahnbrechende Forscher, sondern auch ein gro er praktischer Ethiker und Humanist, dessen gesellschaftliche und politische Aktivitäten sich zwar auf seine überragende wissenschaftliche Autorität stützten, aber auch unab- hängig von seinem wissenschaftlichem Werk flir die Gegenwartsgeschichte von gro er Bedeutung waren. In Einstein vereinigte sich der revolutionäre Umgestalter und schöpfe- rische Neubegründer des wissenschaftlichen Weltbildes mit dem philosophischen Impetus des Sozial-Ethikers und kämpferischen Humanisten.
