El duque de Aquitania es una obra teatral escrita por el Duque de Rivas que se sumerge en los relatos medievales de hermanos fratricidas y señores legítimos ausentes en las cruzadas. La historia se centra en Elisa, la heroína, quien enfrenta acosos y desafíos tras la muerte de su padre en Tierra Santa.

En el primer acto, nos encontramos con Eudón, hermano del difunto padre de Elisa y actual gobernante, que intenta consolar a Elisa y proponerle matrimonio para asegurar su lugar como señora de Aquitania. Elisa, sin embargo, se encuentra en un estado de desesperación y luto, añorando la paz del convento donde creció y rechazando la idea de un matrimonio forzado.

La obra aborda temas como el poder, la traición, el amor y el sacrificio. También explora la complejidad del destino y las elecciones personales en un mundo lleno de conflictos políticos y emocionales. La dualidad entre el mundo exterior lleno de horrores y perfidias y el mundo interior del convento, que representa la paz y la virtud, es especialmente interesante.

Los personajes están bien construidos con diálogos que revelan sus emociones y conflictos internos. Elisa se presenta como una figura trágica atrapada entre dos mundos: uno de poder y política representado por Eudón, y otro de paz y virtud que ella añora.
