Durante un juego temerario sobre un puente ferroviario, un tr�gico accidente con un tren de mercanc�as cambia su vida para siempre, arrebat�ndole una de sus piernas.

A partir de ese instante cr�tico, la novela nos sumerge en la dura y fr�a realidad de la recuperaci�n en un hospital. Alberto debe enfrentarse no solo a la dolorosa rehabilitaci�n f�sica y a la nueva asimetr�a de su cuerpo, sino tambi�n al peso del juicio ajeno, al duelo por la libertad que ha perdido y al miedo de regresar a su pueblo.

Sin embargo, en medio del asfixiante calor del verano y la rigidez limitante de su pr�tesis, Alberto encuentra un refugio de libertad inesperado: el agua.
