Rolando Carrasco M. es Magíster en Literatura General por la Universidad de Chile y Dr. phil. por la Universidad Friedrich Schiller en Jena. Ha sido académico del Departamento de Literatura de la Universidad de Chile, Visiting Assistant Professor en la Universidad de Virginia, e impartido cursos de su especialidad en el Instituto de Estudios Latinoamericanos (Universidad Libre de Berlín) y la Universidad de Constanza. Sus principales campos de investigación se han concentrado en los estudios literarios y culturales sobre el periodo colonial en Hispanoamérica, con énfasis en Humanismo y retórica en la temprana modernidad, crónicas eclesiásticas y el utopismo cristiano-social en América, Ilustración y enciclopedismo en el área andina (s. XVIII). Actualmente, se desempeña como colaborador académico y científico en el Instituto de Romanística-Latinística de la Universidad de Osnabrück (Alemania).
