"This is a testimony about the eighteen years I spent near President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, when his then Secretary of Communications, César Yáñez, and I were a couple. They are both protagonists in this story full of political betrayals, personal ambitions, infidelities, labor abuse, corruption, and authoritarianism. Mi intention is to show how power has been López Obrador's great love and obsession, and how hatred and resentment have been his nourishment.

ELENA CHÁVEZ GONZÁLEZ es egresada de la escuela de periodismo Carlos Septién García. Trabajó como reportera en Excélsior (1990-1994), unomásuno (1995) y Ovaciones (1998-2000). Se desempeñó como reportera interna en el Senado de la República (1996) y en la Secretaría de Gobernación (1997); y más tarde como servidora pública en el gobierno de la Ciudad de México (2001-2014) y diputada constituyente (2016). Es activista por los derechos de los animales.
