The Secret of Flowers is a wonderful praise to the simplest things; its pages bring together an impossible love story, the hardest tragedy, and the infinite scope of love's redemption.

Violette Toussaint is in charge of the cemetery of a small town in Burgundy. Her coffee, her smile, and her conversation comfort all those who accompany their loved ones on their last journey. Violette's life revolves around visits from newcomers and regular townspeople, everyday burial routines, and the task of placing fresh water on the flower pots so that there is always a fresh and cheerful bouquet next to the dead. However, one day, some strangers' decisions to rest together forever on a plot of land will make her otherwise stable life, wobble.

"My name is Violette Toussaint. I have been a railroad guard and now I am a cemetery guardian. I taste life and I sip it slowly as if drinking jasmine tea mixed with honey. When night comes, the gates of my cemetery close and I hang the keys on my bathroom door, and I feel at peace."
