Daneben soll auf die Hindernisgründe der Unternehmen für die Nutzung eines elektronischen Archivs eingegangen werden. Durch den Einfluss der heutigen zunehmenden Digitalisierung und der damit verbundenen immer grö er werdenden Informationsflut sowie Trends, wie das "Papierlose Büro" stehen Unternehmen vor neuen sich ständig verändernden Herausforderungen. Um diesen Herausforderungen standzuhalten und damit die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit eines Unternehmens zu sichern, müssen Unternehmen die gro en Datenmengen in kürzester Zeit verwalten. Hinsichtlich dieser Entwicklung greifen Unternehmen für die Verwaltung der Daten/Dokumente vermehrt auf ein elektronisches Dokumentenmanagementsystem zurück. Jedoch spielt nicht nur die Verwaltung der Dokumente eine wichtige Rolle, sondern auch der nachfolgende Prozessschritt - die elektronische Archivierung. Unter dem Einfluss der gesetzlichen Vorgaben bezüglich der Aufbewahrungsfristen von bestimmten Dokumenten und daneben für den langfristigen Erhalt sowie gezielte Wiederauffindung von Dokumenten, gewinnt die digitale Archivierung für die Unternehmen immer mehr an Bedeutung. Viele Unternehmen sind sich der Notwendigkeit und den Nutzen eines digitalen Archivs bewusst. Dennoch zeigen zahlreiche Studien, dass die digitale Archivierung noch nicht in allen Unternehmen etabliert wurde. Die Ergebnisse der Studien veranschaulichen, dass der Nutzen sowie die gesetzliche Notwendigkeit eines digitalen Archivs noch nicht von allen Unternehmen erkannt wurden.
