Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Das Internet kam über die Menschen, wie das Telefon, jedoch plötzlich und unvermittelt, und es blieb keine Zeit, sich daran zu gewöhnen. Dieser Satz verdeutlicht die anfängliche Hilflosigkeit der Menschen, denn es wusste keiner so richtig was es darstellen sollte. Das Internet, ein Zusammenschluss vieler Computer zu einem Netzwerk, hat die Art und Weise in der Menschen miteinander kommunizieren und interagieren stark verändert. In den Anfängen des Internets wusste man noch nicht, dass dieses Netzwerk die Welt erobern und unheimliche Dimensionen annehmen wird. Die Entstehung des Internets geht zurück auf die Zeit des Kalten Krieges, wo man versuchte ein Netzwerk zu entwickeln, das einen atomaren Krieg überstehen soll. Aus dem Zusammenschluss von zuerst vier Computern entwickelte sich das Internet in den nächsten Jahrzehnten zu einem fast nicht mehr kontrollierbaren Netzwerk. Aus dem Wachstum der Internethostzahlen von 1997-1999 kann dies verdeutlicht werden. Gab es im Jahr 1997 16 Millionen Internethosts, so stieg die Zahl bis Juli 1999 auf 56 Millionen weltweit. Betrachtet man die Internetuserzahlen, so gibt es derzeit, Stand Dezember 1999 weltweit 201 Millionen Internetuser, die sich erfreuen jeden Tag neue Informationen und Nachrichten aus dem WWW zu holen. Osterreich liegt in Europa an hervorragender sechster Stelle mit 2,1 Millionen Internetusern (alle Personen, die die Möglichkeit haben das Internet zu nutzen), das ist ein Anteil von 32% der österreichischen Bevölkerung über 14 Jahre. Vor Österreich liegen nur die Skandinavischen Länder, wie Schweden, Norwegen, Finnland, Dänemark und Island. Hinter Österreich, was sehr erfreulich ist für uns, liegen Deutschland, Frankreich, Gro britannien usw.. Durch das Internet wurden aber auch neue Verkaufsschwerpunkte gesetzt. Viele Unternehmen sahen im Internet eine gro e Herausforderung bzw. eine Marktlücke, nämlich einerseits Produkte und Dienstleistungen via Internet an den Kunden zu bringen
