Der III. Band der Elemente der Mechanik enthlilt im wesentlichen eine Grund- legung der Kinetik des Massen-Mittelpunktes (Punkt-Kinetik) und der Kinetik starrer Karper. Die Darstellung schlie t an die in den Banden I und II erarbeiteten Grundlagen an. Alles Wesentliche wird aber noch einmal kurz zusammengestellt, so d der vorliegende Band auch selbstandig zu gebrauchen ist. Die im Vorwort zum 1. Band angesprochene didaktische Linie wird weiterverfolgt: Von einfachen Sachverhalten ausgehend wird sorgfaltig eine allgemeine Methodik der Beschreibung dieser Sachverhalte entwickelt, die dann auch systematisch auf komplexere Probleme auszudehnen ist. Dieser Linie folgend schreiten die Betrachtungen - nach einer kurzen Erorterung der allgemeinen Grundlagen der klassischen Mechanik - von der Kinetik des Massen-Mittelpunktes liber die Kinetik der ebenen Bewegung und danach der niumlichen Bewegung starrer Korper bis zur analytischen Mechanik der Systeme starrer Karper fort. Eine gesonderte, ausfuhrliche Betrachtung ist dem Obergang zu einem andem Bezugssystem gewidmet. Die uber den liblichen Rahmen hinausgehenden Ober- legungen sollen zu einem tieferen Verstlmdnis der hier vorliegenden Problematik fOOren. Auch die Behandlung des Sto problems geht uber den liblichen Rahmen hinaus. Auf Schwingungsprobleme wird hingegen erst in Band IV naher ein- gegangen. Manche Helfer (Kollegen und Mitarbeiter), die schon an der Arbeit fur die ersten beiden Bande beteiligt waren, haben auch an diesem Band wieder mitgewirkt.
