Seit langem bestand die Absicht, den Inhalt der Vorlesungen, die ich seit etlichen Jahren an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum über nachrichtentechnische Systeme halte, in angemessen erweiterter Gestalt als Buch verfügbar zu machen. Leider hat sich die Ver- wirklichung dieses Plans wegen der gro en Fülle anderer Verpflichtungen immer wieder verzögert, und auch jetzt habe ich gegenüber meinen ursprünglichen Vorstellungen, wie ein solches Buch aussehen sollte, stark zurückstecken müssen, damit es zumindest in der vorliegenden Fassung erscheinen kann. Es ist zunächst als Begleittext für unsere Studenten gedacht; darüber hinaus soll es aber auch anderen Interessierten die Möglichkeit bieten, sich mit dem behandelten Stoff vertraut zu machen oder aber aus den Besonderheiten der gewählten Darstellung Anregung zu schöpfen. Freilich kann man sehr unterschiedlicher Meinung darüber sein, welche StofFauswahl für eine Vorlesung in unserem Fach am zweckmä igsten ist. Dies ist auch gut so, denn erst dadurch, da verschiedene Autoren auch verschiedene Akzente setzen und andere Aspekte betonen und herausstellen, ist es bei der Riesenfülle des heutigen Wissens über- haupt möglich, zumindest insgesamt eine etwas grö ere Breite zu erreichen. Die hier getroffene Wahl wurde bestimmt zum einen durch die gegebenen äu eren Beschränkun- gen und Vorgaben, die aus dem hiesigen Studienplan für das Fach Elektrotechnik folgen, zum anderen aber auch durch spezifische Neigungen und Erfahrungen des Autors. Ins- besondere sollte angestrebt werden, die eigentlichen Grundlagen auf möglichst saubere und physikalisch einsichtige Weise darzulegen.
