About The Book

Au printemps 1930 Henri de Régnier visita l'Espagne pour la première fois, plus particulièrement Madrid, Tolède, Avila, L'Escurial, Burgos. Cette même année, entre la mi-octobre et la mi-novembre, un deuxième voyage allait suivre: l'écrivain parcourut cette fois-ci la Catalogne et Majorque. Un troisième tour dans la péninsule, à l'automne 1932, mettait fin au périple espagnol de l'auteur: de Barcelone il descendit jusqu'en Andalousie pour s'arrêter à nouveau à Madrid avant de rejoindre Paris.

Sous le titre général En Espagne les récits de ces voyages furent publiés par la Revue des Deux Mondes (quatre livraisons entre novembre 1933 et octobre 1935). Nous présentons aujourd'hui au public un voyage qui n'a jamais été publié en livre et dont le dernier chapitre, Tarragone - Saragosse - Valence , conservé parmi les papiers de Mme Tremblot-Bougeneaux, qui aurait accompagné l'écrivain au cours de ces voyages, est inédit.

Ces pages découvrent aux lecteurs un voyageur raffiné qui savait jouir de chaque moment du voyage, un grand amateur d'antiquités et d'art particulièrement épris du Gréco, un écrivain toujours en quête du mot juste, d'un lyrisme simple et sans artifice.

About The Author

Henri de Régnier (Honfleur, 1864 - Paris, 1936), poète, romancier et académicien français. S'il débute avec des recueils de poésie, à la rencontre entre le Parnasse et le Symbolisme, sa production romanesque, très riche, prend une place de plus en plus importante dans son oeuvre. Collaborateur habituel de la presse littéraire de l'époque, Henri de Régnier sut également livrer de magnifiques récits de voyage. Outre En Espagne, il signa le tout petit volume Vues (1927), où il est question de Londres et de Stamboul, L'Altana ou la vie vénitienne, 1899-1924 (1928) et Escales en Méditerranée (1931).

Carlota Vicens-Pujol est Maître de conférences à l'Université des îles Baléares (Espagne). Ses recherches portent notamment sur la littérature française du XX^esiècle. Depuis 2004 elle dirige à son université le groupe de recherche « Récit de voyage et mythe insulaire. Le voyage aux Baléares ». Auteur de nombreux articles concernant le récit de voyage ou le thème de l'île, elle a édité les volumes: George Sand (1804-2004). L'île et la dame de Nohant (2004) et De l'île réelle à l'île fantasmée. Voyages, littérature(s) et insularité (2012).
