Abschlie end werden die Vor- und Nachteile beziehungsweise der Nutzen und eventuelle Schwachstellen erläutert und ECM anhand eines aktuellen Beispiels veranschaulicht. Gesundheitseinrichtungen und ihre Mitarbeiter stehen heutzutage mehr denn je einer Flut an Informationen gegenüber, aus denen die relevanten Informationen gefiltert werden müssen, um sie zielorientiert für den Behandlungsprozess verwenden zu können. Immer mehr in den Fokus gerät diesbezüglich die automatisierte und einheitliche Digitalisierung von Inhalten, um Informationen ohne Medienbrüche elektronisch verfügbar zu machen. Hier setzt das Konzept des Enterprise Content Management (ECM) an. ECM wird als IT- Strategie verstanden, die es ermöglichen soll, die wichtigen Inhalte für das Unternehmen und seine Mitarbeiter zu verwalten. Ziel des ECM ist es, mithilfe verschiedener Komponenten die häufig unstrukturierten Informationen eines Unternehmens in eine strukturierte und einheitliche Form zu bringen und diese den Mitarbeitern im Geschäftsprozess zur Verfügung zu stellen. Insbesondere Krankenhäuser und andere Gesundheitseinrichtungen sind für den Einsatz von ECM-Systemen prädestiniert, da Informationen im Gesundheitswesen lebenswichtig sind. Da sich in Gesundheitseinrichtungen die Kernprozesse an Patienten und deren Behandlung orientieren, spielt die schnelle Verfügbarkeit und Richtigkeit von Informationen eine bedeutende Rolle, die durch geeignete Systeme optimiert werden kann.
