I don't live out loud, I live quietly, almost imperceptibly, woven in between your recovery story. The addict always takes center stage. The rest of us - the children, the lovers, the wives and family members - we all become secondary characters, even in our own lives. I'm not even sure the last time I consciously participated in my own life or considered my own needs. I had to stop looking in the mirror because the face reflected wasn't mine. I stopped dancing, stopped laughing, stopped playing, always frozen in the time between the last time you were high and the next one, which always felt inevitable no matter the distance between the two.
