Eine Methode oder ein Modell, mit dem man den Packbereich dimensionieren kann, existiert allerdings nicht. Das Verpackungssystem - also der Packbereich - soll dabei möglichst effektiv betrieben werden, da der Packbereich beträtliche Kosten verursacht und Investitionen bindet. Jedes Verpackungssystem muss sich letztendlich im Sinne der spezifischen Anforderungen leistungs- und kostenorientiert darstellen lassen. Dabei muss der Packbereich seinen Anforderungen und Aufgaben gerecht werden, aber zugleich auch der wirtschaftlichen und umsetzungsbezogenen Effizienz des Gesamtsystems dienen. Dabei ist darauf zu achten, funktionstypische Einzelergebnisse nicht nur für sich alleine zu betrachten, sondern diese in den systemintegrativen Zusammenhang zu bringen. Jeder Eingriff in ein logistisches System verändert Strukturen und Abläufe, die in entsprechen- der Weise leistungs- und kostenmässig reagieren. Dabei ist aus ganzheitlicher Sicht nicht der einzelne Prozess entscheidend, sondern die Summe der Prozesse. Da dies teilweise ungleichgewichtig zu Verbesserungen und Verschlechterungen führt, lässt sich nicht immer vermeiden, ist aber im Sinne des Gesamtoptimums zwingend erforderlich. Um die komplexen Zusammenhänge der Strukturen eines Distributionszentrums und damit auch des Packbereiches zu analysieren, wird eine Vorgehensweise gewählt, wie sie später dargestellt ist. Mit einer solchen Vorgehensweise lässt sich im Besonderen bei folgenden Fragestellungen eine Klärung erwarten: - Welche Prozesse sind für die Dimensionierung entscheidend? - Welche Rolle spielen die Auftrags-, Produkt- und Kundenstruktur bei der Planung eines Packbereiches? - Welche Arbeitsinhalte sind in einem Packbereich
