Zudem gewinnt der Faktor Flexi-bilität immer mehr an Bedeutung, um geringe Durchlaufzeiten zu generieren und den immer kürzer werdenden Produktlebenszyklen gerecht zu werden. Der Prinzipien- und Methodenbaukasten der Lean-Production stellt eine Vielzahl an Werkzeugen zur Erschlie ung von Rationalisierungspotenzialen bereit. Sind die Kapa-zitäten der Prozessverbesserungen auf produzierender Ebene weitestgehend ausge-schöpft ist es notwendig, die schlanken Prinzipien über die gesamte Wertschöpfungsket-te auszuweiten. Durch die Integration auf logistischer Ebene lassen sich nachhaltige Wettbewerbsvorteile generieren. Auf der Ebene der Produktionslogistik stellt besonders die Materialbereitstellung einen Herd an Verschwendungen und Ineffizienzen dar, die es im Rahmen der Prozessverbesserungen zu eliminieren gilt. Neben vielen anderen Methoden der Lean Logistics zeigt sich insbesondere die zyklische Materialbereitstellung mittels Milkrun als gelungenes Werkzeug auf dem Weg zur operativen Exzellenz. Das Erfolgskonzept innerbetrieblicher Milkruns ist weit verbreitet, dennoch mangelt es an klaren Richtlinien zur Planung und Bewertung der Routenzüge. Neben ergonomischen und kapazitätsorientierten Planungsansätzen gilt es hierzu insbesondere die benötigten Ausführungszeiten als Soll-Zeiten in Abhängigkeit der Ge-staltungsparameter in der Planungsphase zu bestimmen.
