The introduction of foreign substances into the environment that may be detrimental is known as environmental pollution. The repercussions are especially significant when they harm human societies and ecosystems, notably in terms of health. Humans do not have the right to pollute; for instance, volcanoes also release pollutants. But it is undeniable that our species is causing a significant amount of environmental pollution, and that this contribution has grown over the millennia. The most notable instance is air pollution. The most obvious manifestation is smog, which is a portmanteau phrase made up of the words "smoke" and "fog," and is created by chemicals like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Nevertheless, pollution is both ubiquitous and dangerous even when it cannot be seen. Climate change is caused by greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide, which are the most hazardous pollutants over the long term. The air in modern cities is also contaminated by other gases, like carbon monoxide, and atmospheric particulate matter, also known as fine particulate matter, which is divided into PM10 (particles smaller than 10 microns) and PM2,5. Nowadays, almost every lake, river, and ocean in the globe is impacted by water pollution. Oil spills from maritime accidents are the most severe instances of pollution in the ocean, but plastic pollution, and especially microplastic contamination, is a growing concern. Human actions that release waves-in this example, sound-instead of tangible materials into the environment are another kind of noise pollution. City dwellers are primarily impacted, but anyone who lives in an area with a large volume of traffic-whether it be by car, rail, or airplane-or in an industrial region is also impacted. Additionally, many animal species experience greater or less severe disturbances due to noise pollution, much like they do with light pollution. Despite uncertainty and slowness, pollution can be reduced; this is being done at the intergovernmental level, for instance, with the several climate conferences. Because of technological advancements, especially in materials science, the most advanced companies in the energy sector are shifting to a fleet of electricity generators that are increasingly reliant on clean sources, which are now fully competitive. In fact, companies are setting goals that surpass those set by institutions.
