Es 1st deshalb nicht verfriiht und von klinischer Seite besonders begriiBenswert, wenn R. RICHTERICH die weitverstreuten Erhebungen zusammengetragen und yom Standpunkt des Mediziners eine Enzymopathologie aufzubauen versucht hat. RICHTERICH war dank eigener Forschertatigkeit, Ausbildung und Mitarbeit an medizinisch-theoretischen und klinischen Instituten der alten und neuen Welt besonders dazu berufen. Eine medizinische Preisaufgabe der Firma J. R. Geigy A. G. Basel, die im Juni 1958 den 200. Jahrestag ihrer Griindung begeht, fiir welche die Themastellung mir iibertragen war, gab den giinstigen AnlaB, das schon langere Zeit geplante Werk in die Tat umzusetzen und auf diesen Termin fertigzustellen. Das wegen der Weite des Stoffes betrachtliche und doch iibersichtliche Werk gliedert sich in drei Teile. Zuerst wird die Biologie der Enzyme geschildert, be- sonders deren Effekt auf einzelne Lebensvorgange und deren Zusammenwirken in Form von Systemen, die einer zentralen Steuerung unterworfen sind, hervor- gehoben. 1m zweiten Teil, der allgemeinen Enzymopathologie, kommt die Be- deutung enzymatischer Prozesse bei krankhaften Vorgangen zur Besprechung, wobei bereits bei den heredofamiliaren Hyp- und Anenzymien Einblick in ein wichtiges Problem der Medizin, in die neuerdings abgrenzbaren chemischen MiB- bildungen gegeben wird.
